Fix Her Crown Award 4.4.2020

“And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, the four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”
– Revelation 4:9-11 KJV

How incredibly humbling You are, Lord. That You would whisper my name to my dear friend Doreen (aka Beverley) of Becoming the Oil and the Wine to nominate me for the Fix Her Crown Award, when You are the One who bore it. And right at Easter. I praise Your Holy and Glorious Name as these are crowns to lay at Your feet!

Thank you, Doreen, for your kind words, and thoughtful nomination. I am blessed with your friendship. May the Lord continue to bless you and your blog.

Three pictures of myself

Pic 1. Down in the holler at Aunt Beulah’s.1981.2Lord, This picture reminds me of a time when visiting my Aunt’s place in Hickory, down in a holler where we would play. I LOVED that dress. I was 12. I had no idea how much life was about to change. I miss being that carefree and healthy.

Pic 2. Winston-Salem Airplane Graveyardme ans Anthoni.6yrsoldOf course I must include a picture of my babedoll…. my blessing from You, God. Anthoni was about 6 yrs old and me 25. Mom and Dad had brought him down to Winston Salem where I was at a Jaycee convention. We went to the airplane graveyard. He was so excited. Though every time I see this picture I wish I could pull up that sock 😉 I love his smile. You can create some awesome memories, God! ❤

Pic 3. Me at Myrtle Beach, seeing the beach for the first time.Gail at beachMy first time at the beach. A friend took me to Myrtle Beach when she heard I’d never been. I was 29. I felt like You could just flick me off the face of the planet with Your little pinky. I realized there ARE people who have never heard of Jesus.” I wanted to go tell them. I LOVED that jacket. I love clothes that “swallow me whole” as they say. 😉

Extra pic of a me and You me moment, God. 28 yrs old2000.2I wanted to add this me and You moment, God. I still feel the powerful intimacy. I just had my gall bladder removed. It was snowing so everyone was stuck and classes cancelled. By Your grace, I had a dorm room to take a long and needed nap. I loved the sweater like my grandmother’s. the locket with pictures of me and Anthoni, the big topaz ring Karen made me, and that feeling of being drawn to You. I was grateful to make it through the surgery and finally be relieved of the cough I had for months!.

My Nominees:
To begin with I wanted to nominate someone who is not even a blogger. She spent the last several years in a nursing home… until today. At 3 pm, Virginia finally went home to be with You, Jesus. She was my secret sister at church when I was a young unwed mom working 40 hours a week, in college, and just getting back into church. I am grateful, Father, for how You allowed her to love on me and my son.
I pray for Bobby and His family. Virginia was 95 and the last of Bobby’s 9 siblings. He is 86, and now without his mom, dad, all his siblings, both of his wives, and may lose more family who is very sick. Thank You for using Virginia to help me fix my crown when I didn’t even know I had one.
Virginia Taylor obit 4.15.2020And now to “Nominate seven women for the Fix Her Crown Award, women who lend a helping hand to the woman whose crown seems too heavy, who appreciate the sister who dares to be her own glorious self, who raise strong young women, who smile at the sister journeying alone and walk alongside her for a time, who stand with the sister whose crown has been knocked off her head time after time and women who shine as their own beautifully unique selves.” How do I limit that to just seven! God, You have blessed me so richly with sisters and daughters in Christ! Please help anyone who does not see their name to know how invaluable they are to me… and YOU! Help them to know their true worth! ❤ Help them to know You love them!

“Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not;
neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee:
love her, and she shall keep thee.
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom:
and with all thy getting get understanding.
Exalt her, and she shall promote thee:
she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace:
a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.”

  2. Firstly, I’m so, so sorry about Virginia 🌹 She sounds like a wonderful lady and I’m glad you had each other in your lives. And poor Bobby, that is so sad. Do you keep in touch with him much?
Secondly, congratulations on the well-deserved award. I LOVE your photos, Gail. Maybe I’m just very nosy but it’s lovely to read more about you and see you when you were younger too. Now the question – what on earth is a ‘hollar’? 😂 We don’t have that word in the UK. Like in the woods, maybe?
And thirdly, thank you so much for the kind nomination.
Sending much love to you, Gail. Please stay safe  ♥

    1. God was so sweet to allow Virginia to love on my and my little boy years ago. I never knew someday she would actually be my aunt… which is what she became through Bobby marrying my mom.
We (me, my sister, and my son) live with Bobby in his house. His eyes are bad and he cannot see well. He has cataracts but does not want surgery. He has a lot of medicines to take. He cannot drive. And since his stroke in 2015, he has different health issues, including severely damaged lungs. He is a blessing.
A hollar is kind of like a cul de sac except that it is a large open area with a long dirt road leading in but not out. You have to use the same road going our. And a hollar goes down land wise, so that the mountains and trees are like large walls all are you. Google spells it with an e so I changed it. But it’s awesome hearing mountain folks say it. My aunt had a creek running through her from one side of the house all around the front.
Thank you for the kind words. I love being able to see you smile just by reading what you post. It makes me smile too. 🙂
Me and God love you, Caz! We are absolutely smitten with you! ❤

      1. It’s wonderful she could become your aunt, I hadn’t realised that with Bobby marrying your mum (would that then make him your step-father..?) I’m sorry for what he has to struggle with physically too, some people seem to have far too much on their plates, don’t you think? I’m glad your in each other’s lives. 🌹

And thank you so much for taking the time to explain what a hollar is – I really like the sound of it, like a little slice of bliss among nature. It reminded me a little of this dirt road behind my old house when I was little (nothing like a hollar, no mountainous areas or anything but there were trees and it was so novel to me as a kid). That was a cul-de-sac leading behind another house and I love it, it felt a little magical. There was a car park behind that so it wasn’t exactly in the middle of nature but it felt like it when you were on the dirt track.
Anyway, sorry for rambling, it bought back memories of my own there.
Sending lots of love to you, Gail. Please take good care of yourself and have a safe weekend at home  ♥ xx

        1. Yes, he is my stepdad. I did try to get where I would just same… it’s all the same. But most people who know me, knew my dad and how he died, and how we struggled to bury him for a couple of weeks. So they would get confused or keep correcting me, so I just stepdad. We are blessed to have someone with a great heart for God. I am always praising God that my son has a godly example in his life.
You hollar sounds pretty cool too. I think it’s that feeling of having something the world doesn’t have. Like a snug little shelter.
I love hearing your stories too! 🙂 Keep spilling them beans… lol. 🙂 Take care of you too, and stay safe. ❤

  4. Congratulations on the award. You certainly deserve it!!! Praise the LORD for Ms. Virginia. At home with our LORD, running and playing, and eternally happy 🙂 What a blessing she sounded like. Everyone needs a Virginia in their life 🙂 If we are really blessed we have a few 🙂 LOL at that sock. I would have never noticed it if you had not pointed it out. Funny how we see things others don’t. I love clothes that swallow me up too. Never really ever liked anything tight on me. I have just finished typing up this post but unfortunately, there is only one picture of me to post. Since we kept our home in NC when we came here to Texas for hubby’s work, all the photo albums are back there in NC. The only pictures on my phone are of things I have taken pictures of and none are selfies hahaha never understood the point of them. Even on trips or outings there are very few pictures of me anyway because I was always taking the pictures hahaha 🙂 I am so sorry 🙂 Thank you for thinking of me 🙂 LORD, thank You for continuing to bless and use Sister Gail 🙂

    1. All Glotry to God! Ms. Viriginia was a sweet blessing. ❤
Sorry you are still affected by your circumstances. I pray things are getting better. You can always turn the phone around and click… lol. I totally understand about the pics, especially the selfies. I once had a doctor call me a liar for not having a picture of myself being smaller when I told her I had not extra weight until my 30s. She said I would want to brag. I told her I was too ashamed. I forgot about my driver's licences, but then again I don't tend to think of that as a "picture of myself."
I praise the Lord if He allowed the nomination to be a blessing! Me and God love you, Margaret! ❤

      1. After I remembered another picture after it posted. I cut my hair a couple of days ago, and sent a picture to my sister. Oh well, There is one on the post. 🙂 I never realized until a few years ago when my new daughter and law was looking at family photos, and she asked why were there only a few of me. Huh? I got to looking with her and realized, she was right but like I said I was always the one taking the pictures LOL 🙂

        1. lol that’s the way it usually goes.
I loved the picture. Show your new one in your next post??
To be fair it is hard to take a picture with the camera facing the other way, and if you turn around you can’t see the buttons. Praise God for the new features. 🙂

          1. It will look the same only with much shorter hair hahaha. I took it in the mirror in the bathroom after I cut my hair. The one in the post was from January so I haven’t changed much in the past few months LOL. I have been cutting my own hair for years(learned it from another blogger’s post actually) but this time I cut it a lot shorter than I had ever tried before. Playing it safer in the past only 6 inches at the most. This time I cut it just below my shoulders. I figured if I messed it up, who would see it since we are all shut in anyway hahaha 🙂 My sister had to see it, of course!

            Liked by 1 person

            1. I got to cutting my own years ago when my son’s youth pastor encouraged him to learn as well because he was preparing to be a missionary, and the pastor let know it’s highly unlikely he’ll have a lot of things he’s use to at home… like a barber or your mom to cut your hair. I’m not as able to nowadays to lift my arms long enough.
Right now my hair is the longest it’s been in awhile because I am growing it for a doctor friend who wants me to share it as a wig or toupee for patients who have no hair. It has been all the same length (bangs and all togehter), and then from there 12 inches.

              1. That is a good thing to donate. I use to do that when I went to the lady who had cut my hair forever. She retired. Then anytime I’d get it cut it was always uneven, or they cut it like they wanted not what I asked for. I figured ok, I’ll try this method. If it’s messed up at least I didn’t pay for it, and if it’s too messed up I can always go pay someone to somewhat fix it hahaha. It worked just fine though, and have been doing it ever since. It’s real simple, and looks as good as any haircuts I paid for. I typically only cut mine once, maybe twice a year. The first time I did it myself I was shaking, sweating lol but it work out just fine.

                Liked by 1 person

                1. This will be my first time doing it. I’ve tried to do it before but could never afford it. My doctor is always commenting on my hair and when he mentioned toupees I was surprised. When he found out people had tried to charge me, he told me if they were honest they would pay me. He told me he would hook me up.
So the girl who cuts my hair mow new what he was talking about, and showed me it has to be long enough to come together bangs and all the same length, then 12 inched from there. I THINK I am there, but with this virus, I figure God must know someone wants long hair. Either way, when He says it’s time, and then it will be very short for awhile, but I am okay with that.

                  Liked by 1 person

                  1. This is wonderful Gail. And no they should not be charging you. I always donated mine, well the lady who cut my hair donated it. Yes it has to be a certain length. I don’t remember the exact length since we only cut mine once or twice a year, so it was always long enough. I had no idea people used it. My hairdresser asked me. She said she donated it to an organization who used to make hair pieces/wigs for people who had cancer, and lost their hair. She’d wash it, dry it, put it into a ponytail and cut it. Then it got put in this plastic bag, still in the ponytail. It’s not like I was going to use it 🙂 I am so proud of you, and you are right, it will only be short for a while. It will grow back 🙂

                    Liked by 1 person

                    1. By God’s abundant grace, I know it will grow back because it mine does pretty fast.
I think you may have encouraged me to do a blog post. There is a lot of testimony in my hair… lol. Seriously though. Sometimes I believe that is what God means by a woman’s hair is her crown of glory. Any body can grow long hair, but what you do with it and how you let it shine for God is the crown. So many use it for sex ads and other sources of vanity, but it’s not the length, or color, nor even being legalistic with it for religion. It’s all about the attention it brings HIM… not the hair.

And I got to the beach for the first time myself when I was 22. And haven’t since then. ☺

    1. PTL! Thank you, Herry! It’s probably just the mom in me. It always made me feel like, “Oh no! Every one will think I am such a bad mom!” 😉
I think I went 3 times (2 at Wilmington, NC and the 3rd on Daytona Beach in Florida) altogether a year or two after, but not since. However I did actually get in the water and swim the 2nd time, and drove on it the last time. 🙂
But I have so many poems written about the beach and the ocean. That’s what led my friend to take me because she knew I wrote about it all the time, but was floored that I had never been.
Me and God love you, Herry! We treasure you!

Smiles. Totally not. I’m sure you are a good mom. Rolled down socks nonetheless. 🤗

Wow. You really love the beach. Those must have been great times and memories. 😊

Awww. That is really sweet of her to do that. 😊 I would be surprised myself. Glad you had the experience eventually. 🤗

Thank ma’am. And you too. ❤
