According To Thy Word

“And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.”
– Luke 1:35-38 KJV

This morning’s whispers from You, Lord, are pretty cool, and so personal. You told Mary that her cousin Elisabeth was pregnant before anyone else did, and before Mary went to see Elisabeth. You told her it was a son before there was such thing as an ultrasound. You told her that Elisabeth was 6 months along in her pregnancy. You reminded her of Elisabeth being of old age and called Barren (not that she was any longer! 🙂 ). You pointed out to Mary these things (and how much more in those words only You and Mary know) in telling her/answering her in how it was possible for her own self to have a child without knowing a man yet.

No wonder she believed the angel that said with God nothing shall be impossible. No wonder she had no doubts in what You could do for her, or through her with being pregnant with the Son of God. No wonder she believed everything according to Thy word. I know we think of Mary as just a humble spirit, but it’s no wonder that she also had excitement in her spirit. It made her no less humble.

May we be obedient in believing that nothing with You shall be impossible. May we humbly accept Your will… the Lord of our lives. May we trust You with what we don’t understand, even when You speak so openly clear with us. Thank You for being willing to speak clearly and patiently with us. Thank You for sending Your Spirit, Your angels, and all things that You know would encourage us to believe.

Thank You for being the wonderful God that You always are! Thank You for sending us Your Son. Thank You for allowing the world to know Him as a tender and precious baby. Thank You for allowing us to celebrate with You… the pregnancy announcement… and the journey of waiting for His arrival… the great anticipation You allow us to experience with You… in allowing us to read Your word. And to join in the celebration of His arrival all these years later… and every joyful year at Christmas.

Congratulations, Lord, on the arrival of Your Son!
He’s so absolutely and magnificently wonderful!
Thank You for allowing me to love Him too! 🙂 ❤
And You! ❤ 🙂

Faith and Obedience

“And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son,
and shalt call his name JESUS.
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest:
and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever;
and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?”
– Luke 1:30-34 KJV

Lord, in this reading abruptly stopping as Mary asked how this would be but before she got her answer, emphasizes the entrance and instruction of the news to Mary, and her answer merely asking a logical question. She believed God, but because she knew it took being with a man to have a baby she asked how. She didn’t laugh as Sarah did. She believed. Your words point out the favor she found in You, and other scripture points to You calling her obedient. Faith and obedience are pleasing to You. ❤

“And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.”
– Luke 1:26-29 KJV

This morning, Lord, You have me thinking on the angels… and talking with them. Many times throughout my life You have sent me angels… to lead me, to guide me, to comfort me, to lovingly rebuke me, to assure me, to protect me, and to whisper the many wonderful things about You, Your loving Son, and Your tender Holy Spirit. And many times just to sit and talk with me. Sometimes in tears. Sometimes in delightful smiles.

And then You have highlighted for me this morning in being highly favored of You, and assuring me You are with me. Thank You for being so faithfully personal with me, so loving as always. I love You, Lord! ❤
You have permanent favor with me! ❤ Always!

The Star

“Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

In Bethlehem of Judaea

“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judæa: for thus it is written by the prophet, And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.”

Call His Name Jesus

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: and knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.”

Of The Holy Ghost

“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.”
– Matthew 1:18-20 KJV

I’m not sure what You have for me today, Lord, in these words. Nothing particular seems to come to mind. That doesn’t mean Your word is nothing. It just means when You have something for me to take from it, You’ll let me know. You have at least allowed me to be faithful and diligent in writing these verses down, and have allowed this quiet time with You! ❤

Fuller’s Soap

“Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me:
and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple,
even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in:
behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.
But who may abide the day of his coming?

and who shall stand when he appeareth?
for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:
and he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver:
and he shall purify the sons of Levi,
and purge them as gold and silver,
that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.”
– Malachi 3:1-3 KJV

Fuller’s Soap – alkaline substances whose ashes were used for soap. These chemicals remove oil and the dirt that clings to it.

Refiner’s Fire – to bring to a fine or a pure state; free from impurities:
to purify from what is coarse, vulgar, or debasing

How loving You are to bring me through the refiner’s fire and to make me like Fuller’ Soap. It’s been hot, and it’s been rough, but I am so grateful that You have saved me from the vulgar, debasing, coarse things that were taught to me as normal, and from the oil and the dirt that clings to my life. You desire me to be pure. No one else could take ashes and make it pure! Thank You for coming for me, Jesus! Thank You for having faith in me. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit putting an undying love and an undying faith for You in me! Thank You for coming!
You make think on the hymn... How Firm a Foundation!
The last stanza being most emphasized! ❤

How Firm a Foundation

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

“Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.”

“When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
The rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;
For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.”

“When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.”

“E’en down to old age all My people shall prove
My sovereign, eternal, unchangeable love;
And then, when grey hairs shall their temples adorn,
Like lambs they shall still in My bosom be borne.”

“The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no, never, no, never forsake!”

Come

“O come, let us sing unto the Lord:
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving,
and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the deep places of the earth:
the strength of the hills is his also.
The sea is his, and he made it:
and his hands formed the dry land.
O come, let us worship and bow down:
let us kneel before the Lord our maker.
For he is our God;
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.”
– Psalm 95:1-7 KJV

It’s snow day number 4, Lord. We still can’t get out of the driveway. Anthoni needs to get to work, but it won’t be today. Your songs are in today’s writing abundantly. O Come Let Us Adore Him, Come Let Us Worship And Bow Down, The Rock of Our Salvation, How Great Is Our God, and Joy To The World are songs You put on my heart and mind through today’s verses.
And my heart and soul are crying, “I Need Thee Every Hour.”

His Name Shall Endure Forever

“And he shall live,
and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba:
prayer also shall be made for him continually;
and daily shall he be praised.
There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains;

the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon:
and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.
His name shall endure for ever:

his name shall be continued as long as the sun:
and men shall be blessed in him:
all nations shall call him blessed.
Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel,

who only doeth wondrous things.
And blessed be his glorious name for ever:

and let the whole earth be filled with his glory;
Amen, and Amen.
The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.”
– Psalm 72:15-20 KJV

and from the river unto the ends of the earth.
They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him;
and his enemies shall lick the dust.
The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents:
the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.
Yea, all kings shall fall down before him:
all nations shall serve him.
For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth;
the poor also, and him that hath no helper.
He shall spare the poor and needy,
and shall save the souls of the needy.
He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence:
and precious shall their blood be in his sight.”
– Psalm 72:8-14 KJV

“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The Lord our righteousness.

Abundant Peace

“Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son. He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment. The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.
They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations. He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth. In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.
– Psalms 72:1-7 KJV

The mountains bring me peace too, Lord, as long as You are in them. You have blessed me to allow me to live in them, especially along the Blue Ridge Parkway. 🙂 Thank You.

I love “as long as the sun and moon endureth!” I love “rain upon the mown grass.” It might be sticky to the shoes and feet, but it sure smells so nice… so good! Thank You for the “showers that water the earth.” I don’t know if this really is David’s prayer or not, or really about King Solomon, but it’s very nice. Solomon did save the baby (1 Kings 3:16-27).

Good Tidings

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the Lord shall bring again Zion.
Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the Lord hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
– Isaiah 52:7-10 KJV

Lord, here You again are encouraging me to keep writing. Your children need good tidings. They need Your comfort. They need to know You reigneth. They need to know You know their hurt,  and that You care about each one. They long for Your peace. I long for Your peace. Peace can only be found in You. A peace that passes all understanding, even mine.  How blessed I am that I don’t have to understand.

Here You are, my Watchman, assuring me we will lift my voice together with Your children and sing! We need to break forth in joy. We want to break forth in joy. You are our joy. I love You, Lord! ❤
