Opened Eyes, Wondrous Things

“Open thou mine eyes,
that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law”
– Psalm 119:18 KJV

Today was choose any verse of your own. I am using the verse that is at the bottom of the Christmas 31 Day Scripture Writing Plan... Psalm 119:18. It’s a perfect one in describing what Your word does in opening my eyes and helping me to see… to understand. There are so many pleasures and treasures in Your word. Even my notes from church today go with this.

Looking on failures causes us to recognize You.
If we keep our eyes on Jesus, we will know Him.
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus! ❤
I love that hymn!

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus – hymn lyrics by Helen Howarth Lemmel

Don’t believe everything you think.
You cannot be trusted to tell yourself the truth.

Stay in the word.
– Evangelist Jerry Bridge

Thank You for allowing me to see You in every page… in every word!
You are everything to me, Father! ❤
Thank You for allowing me to see Jesus! Especially in my heart!
What love! ❤
Thank You for allowing me to see the Holy Ghost leading me to You!
He’s such a Comfort! ❤

The Hope of Eternal Life

“For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; that being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”
– Titus 3:3-7 KJV

I am so sad to say that the first part so describes how I use to live, be, believe, and think like. Why You thought I was worth the effort, I have no idea, but I am so grateful that Your kindness and Your love appeared, and that Your mercy saved me, that the Holy Ghost has renewed me abundantly through my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Thank You for making me justified by Your grace! Thank You for making me a part of Your family! ❤ I am a child of the King! 🙂 Forever and eternally!
I have the hope of eternal life! ❤

Every Good and Perfect Gift

“Do not err, my beloved brethren.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
and cometh down from the Father of lights,
with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth,
that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.”
– James 1:16-18 KJV

“Every good gift”and “Every perfect gift.” You are every good gift, Jesus. You are every perfect gift because You are from above and cometh down from the Father of lights. You and Your Father are One. You are the Light of the world. Of His own will He begat You… born of a virgin… conceived of the Holy Ghost. Of His own will begat He us with the word of truth. The book of John says You are the Word, and have been the Word from the beginning. You also tell us in John that You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

How precious and humbling that Your Father
would make us a kind of His firstfruits.

Thank You, Father, for making us one of Your creatures. I am so grateful that You would allow me to be any part of anything to do with You and Your Son, and Your Holy Spirit. I am gladly blessed to be Your firstfruit, Your creature, Your child, Your image, Your servant, Your friend, Your vessel, Your daughter, Your temple… just to name a few of the many things Your word has told me You have made me or allowed me to be.
Most precious of all YOURS! ❤

I love You, Father God! ❤
I love You, Jesus Christ! ❤
I love You, Holy Spirit! ❤

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.”
– Philippians 2:9-11 KJV

Highly Exalted is definitely how You have me seeing Your precious Son today. Jesus was given a name above every name. One day every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord! Not all who kneel and confess will do so as an act of love and adoration, but out of reverent fear forced from the realization that He is who You say He is, and therefore to glorify You, God His Father. They will not escape their eternal destination just because the words come out of their mouth. Jesus will be given His due reverence and His righteous justice… the glory for which You have highly exalted Him forever. ❤

and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
– Philippians 2:5-8 KJV

Lord God, help me to be like minded with Christ, to be humble, to be obedient… even unto death… whatever death You have for me.
Help me to keep things all about You! Help me to die to self… every day!

The Spirit of Your Son

“But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son,
made of a woman, made under the law,
to redeem them that were under the law,
that we might receive the adoption of sons.
And because ye are sons,
God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts,
crying, Abba, Father.
Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son;
and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
– Galatians 4:4-7 KJV

You fill my heart to be reminded of You sending forth the Spirit of Your Son into my heart, crying, “Abba, Father.” I do love You, my Abba Father.
You make me think on that song Abba Father by Rebecca St. James that You caused me to fall in love with years ago.
I still love it! I still love You, Abba Father! ❤

Looking up the video and lyrics has renewed an even greater love for it. It’s a flying song! ❤ Reminding me of the Blue Ridge Parkway… just me and You time! 🙂

I’m feeling like the eagle that rises
Flies above the earth and its troubles
Oh yes he knows that there are valleys below
But under his wings there’s a stronger power
Oh Father
You are my strength
On You I wait upon

CHORUS:
You make the road rise up to meet me
You make the sun shine warm upon my face
The wind is at my back and the rain falls soft
God I lift You high You are my Abba

Running in this race to the finish line
The only road for me is the narrow
Not gonna stop or even look to the side
When I fix my eyes on You Jesus
Oh Father
You are my strength
Now more than ever

CHORUS

When you’ve run too far
Can’t walk another mile
Hope in Him again
Then you will rise
Gather up your wings and fly

Chorus 2 times

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
He gives strength to the weary
To those who hope in Him
They will soar like eagles

Wonder

And when they had seen it,
they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
And the shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen,
as it was told unto them.”
– Luke 2:17-20 KJV

Wonder… that is what I see… hear… and remember. How could one not wonder at all of these things? And when I read on Mary wondering/pondering these things in her heart, it reminds me of things You made me wonder on with the son You blessed me with. Like how he was so modest before he could barely talk, yet when he voiced his strong conviction You caused me to hear You talking through him. You caused me to wonder on what you were teaching, and that You would use a child. You taught us both. You have caused us both to wonder on Your Son for quite awhile now, and I trust we always will.

A Multitude of the Heavenly Host

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God,
and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven,
the shepherds said one to another,
Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass,
which the Lord hath made known unto us.
And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.”
– Luke 2:13-16 KJV

Again, Lord, You bring wonder to my mind in Your multitude of the heavenly host that joined the angel that came to the shepherds. What a glorious choir that must have been, or so I would imagine. But what did the shepherds think to see the sky filled with light, angels, a multitude of the heavenly host, and Your glory that was shining everywhere?
Your word says the shepherds went to see what You had made known to them. And they went with haste. I don’t blame them.
They found Your precious treasure! ❤

Abiding Shepherds (The Night Shift)

“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you;
Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”
– Luke 2:8-12 KJV

It’s so touching, Lord, seeing Your shepherds just minding their own business, or as You have written in Your word… abiding… in the field… where their business was… keeping watch… over what was given to them to watch… the flock… by night… because even the night shift is just as important in looking over what You have entrusted to us. Our children, our people, our assignments, our tasks, and our many gifts You have entrusted to each of us.

Just as the many emergency workers look over the city to protect the people, whether it be the police officers, the firefighters, the medical personnel in the hospital, the emergency room, the ambulance, the soldiers (whether assigned local or afar), and even the simple professions (as most people thought of the shepherds) like those working convenience stores, the late night restaurants, the snow plows who make it possible for emergency workers to get gas, to get to work, to get home, to keep gas in the vehicles between each run, to keep the workers fed, to provide medicines they made need for a cold or a headache, and the many things we may not think on. It’s the night shift… the shift where most of the world has shut down for the night.

Your shepherds were in their field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And then Your angel appeared. How incredible Your glory must have been to shine all around them. But I could understand how that could seem terrifying to those shepherds in the dark of night to see the sky lit up all around them. How thoughtful and patient of You to comfort their fear first thing. That’s You… to be so attentive and personal.

Thank You for the good news of Your Son, and for including everyone in that good tidings for great joy which was to be to ALL people! Jesus is the greatest joy ever! Thank You for being a God who’s willing to give us signs. How beautiful of a sign was Your Son as He was wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in that manger.

Thank You for allowing us to be reminded of Your loving Son. It adds to the great anticipation of Your Son. How You must have felt. Thank You for sharing Him with us. Congratulations on Your new arrival… then… each year… and when we are finally home with the both of You.

The Days Were Accomplished

“And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.”
– Luke 2:4-7 KJV

Today, Lord, You emphasize to me that Joseph too was a part of Your great plan. All of it was You… Mary as the chosen obedient virgin… Jesus being conceived of the Holy Ghost within that obedient virgin… Joseph being a chosen obedient lineage of David… the city of Bethlehem being the birthplace… Nazareth having something good to come out of her… being taxed together to historically record their union and location at the time of the birth… and that the days were accomplished according to the One who designed them.

Your Son would be born and wrapped in a manger because You led them to an inn with no room… representing each human heart that has no room for You. But just as every soul that filled that inn had purpose in accomplishing Your plans, You sent Your Son to save each one of us from ourselves. Your Son represents the love You have for each one of us, and the lengths You are willing to go to… to help us see You… to welcome You… to love You.

You do not force any of us into a relationship, but are more than willing to make such powerful statements with Your love, as no one knows better than You, our nature to judge the greater the humility and mercy one shows us the more they must really love us. Thank You for loving us more than we could ever understand! Thank You for loving us!

I love You too, Father! ❤

A Strong Arm

He hath shewed strength with his arm;
he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; as he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.”
– Luke 1:51-56 KJV

I love such praise for You, Father. You are a strong arm to lean on. You have scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. After all, no one knows the heart better than You. You have taken the mighty down from their seats, and they are not happy when that happens. You exalt the “low life,” which always seems to get our attention because we love to root for the little guy… the underdog.

You do fill the hungry with good things because You are a good and loving Father… the Good Shepherd who cares for His own. You send the rich away empty handed because often they have taken it from the poor in greed, or it’s simply what lengths it takes just to get their attention and remind them You are God.

You are a God who remembers His own people, remembering promises made to His people, and keeping those promises made to the one promised, his seed, and keeping those promises fulfilled abundantly.

Mary has so wisely praised You. She was just a lowly handmaiden, a virgin newly engaged. Despite the fact that we tend to think such exaltation are words from an Holy Ghost inspired bible scholar, it is the heart and mind of that scared little virgin girl now overshadowed by the Holy One. And we are blessed to witness such a mighty miracle by the power of the Almighty. I feel like using Mary’s own words with her saying,

My soul doth magnify the Lord!
Blessed is He who is mighty!

I love who You are, Lord! 🙂
And fall more and more in love with You each day! ❤

The Lowly of Lowlies

“And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.”
– Luke 1:46-50 KJV

How exciting to read (and experience with her) Mary praising You with such magnification and joy, with such mindful praise. Counting her blessings and naming them one by one. 🙂 ❤ You have regarded the low estates as You even gave Jesus a life of lowly estate. How profound You have made the word humility. To be humble is to completely defined, yet how mighty You truly are, as is the mighty love and obedience of Your Son. Holy is Your name! Your mercy is surely on those that fear You. Thank You for humility, strength, for holiness, and Your mercy.

It seems so odd to break this devotion off in the middle of praise, in the middle of Mary’s prayer and praise to You. I’m so enjoying hearing her praise when her faith had no doubt, and her wisdom simply asked how it would happen. She has not laughed or doubted as others. She believed enough to ask how You were going to make that possible because she knew the logic of how the body worked, and the law of Your own words regarding purity. She knew You would not violate Your word, nor ask her to. Once You answered her, she simply continued to believe and praise Your Holy name.

So in faith with no question on what You do is Your plan for me, even in writing a devotion that You designed in someone else’s heart and mind, and then led me to do, I choose to do to continue to trust You even in what seems like an interruption to her praise for You. You are mighty and great, and have perfect knowledge in emphasizing whatever You will. It definitely emphasizes that You are God, and that we all are of low estate in regard to Your mightiness. How great and merciful You are to teach us such holiness, mercy, and love! It takes such love to pause Your own praise to teach us of who You truly are… The Lowly of Lowlies. I love You God ! ❤

According To Thy Word

“And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.”
– Luke 1:35-38 KJV

This morning’s whispers from You, Lord, are pretty cool, and so personal. You told Mary that her cousin Elisabeth was pregnant before anyone else did, and before Mary went to see Elisabeth. You told her it was a son before there was such thing as an ultrasound. You told her that Elisabeth was 6 months along in her pregnancy. You reminded her of Elisabeth being of old age and called Barren (not that she was any longer! 🙂 ). You pointed out to Mary these things (and how much more in those words only You and Mary know) in telling her/answering her in how it was possible for her own self to have a child without knowing a man yet.

No wonder she believed the angel that said with God nothing shall be impossible. No wonder she had no doubts in what You could do for her, or through her with being pregnant with the Son of God. No wonder she believed everything according to Thy word. I know we think of Mary as just a humble spirit, but it’s no wonder that she also had excitement in her spirit. It made her no less humble.

May we be obedient in believing that nothing with You shall be impossible. May we humbly accept Your will… the Lord of our lives. May we trust You with what we don’t understand, even when You speak so openly clear with us. Thank You for being willing to speak clearly and patiently with us. Thank You for sending Your Spirit, Your angels, and all things that You know would encourage us to believe.

Thank You for being the wonderful God that You always are! Thank You for sending us Your Son. Thank You for allowing the world to know Him as a tender and precious baby. Thank You for allowing us to celebrate with You… the pregnancy announcement… and the journey of waiting for His arrival… the great anticipation You allow us to experience with You… in allowing us to read Your word. And to join in the celebration of His arrival all these years later… and every joyful year at Christmas.

Congratulations, Lord, on the arrival of Your Son!
He’s so absolutely and magnificently wonderful!
Thank You for allowing me to love Him too! 🙂 ❤
And You! ❤ 🙂

Faith and Obedience

“And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son,
and shalt call his name JESUS.
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest:
and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever;
and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?”
– Luke 1:30-34 KJV

Lord, in this reading abruptly stopping as Mary asked how this would be but before she got her answer, emphasizes the entrance and instruction of the news to Mary, and her answer merely asking a logical question. She believed God, but because she knew it took being with a man to have a baby she asked how. She didn’t laugh as Sarah did. She believed. Your words point out the favor she found in You, and other scripture points to You calling her obedient. Faith and obedience are pleasing to You. ❤

“And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.”
– Luke 1:26-29 KJV

This morning, Lord, You have me thinking on the angels… and talking with them. Many times throughout my life You have sent me angels… to lead me, to guide me, to comfort me, to lovingly rebuke me, to assure me, to protect me, and to whisper the many wonderful things about You, Your loving Son, and Your tender Holy Spirit. And many times just to sit and talk with me. Sometimes in tears. Sometimes in delightful smiles.

And then You have highlighted for me this morning in being highly favored of You, and assuring me You are with me. Thank You for being so faithfully personal with me, so loving as always. I love You, Lord! ❤
You have permanent favor with me! ❤ Always!

I love You, Lord ❤
I love You, Jesus! ❤
I love You, Holy Spirit! ❤
